This external 8TB solid-state drive comes equipped with two Thunderbolt 3 ports, ideal for daisy chaining up to six Thunderbolt 3 devices, and it offers read/write speeds up to 2,800 MB/s. Pre-formatted HFS+ Journaled for Mac and capable of being reformatted for Windows, the plug-and-play four-bay drive has been pre-configured as RAID 0 using SoftRAID. A ballistic hard-shell carrying case is included.

So Fast
After getting bogged down Transcoding files for clients I needed a super fast working drive on which I could dump frles and transcode jobs at lightning fast speeds. What surprised me is just how fast it is to copy files to and from the drive. 160gb in just over a minute and a half. Amazing. It’s expensive but the time it saves me is worth every penny.
Fast ! Fast ! Fast!
Using mainly for active Final Cut projects ! Couldn’t be happier. The speed of drive keeps up with ever increasing .mov file sizes from newest cameras. No more crashes in FCX ! Love the compact form factor.
Very fast – Very reliable
I’ve been using two of these drives for the better part of a year. While I don’t edit full time, I have used these on mission critical projects. While these are RAID 0 and subject to the faults of that, OWC build these specifically for RAID 0. Thankfully, I have not had any issues to date. That being said, because this is RAID 0, I try to backup this stuff often.
Exceptional Performance for Video
I was struggling to get any sort of multicam editing done on Final Cut Pro X using a 2017 MacBook Pro. Though this was an investment, I decided to upgrade to this instead of an entirely new computer for now, and I’m super glad I did. The build quality, the performance, and the ease-of-use is second to none. The pelican-style case is a nice addition as well for when editing on the go happens. The most important question isn’t whether or not to get this, but to decide what size best fits your workflow. For me the 2TB was sufficient as I only work on one project at a time. I could see upgrading to another larger one later if that changes.
Horrid
One of the worst hard drives in the market
If half were an option I would have selected it.
On arrival one whole section of the raid failed then the problem seemed to correct itself now, the power adapter provided has started intermittently failing owc is on backorder and I’m left with a unusable device to edit a pilot on, going back to my g drives because its pointless to have a blisteringly fast drive if its just going to get power failure within a few weeks of use.
Expensive but very large and fast!
I hesitated before I bought this because of the price; after I was sure this was fair, I bought it from so I could use my PayBoo card and get reimbursed for the sales tax. I haven’t looked back. It is an extremely fast 8 TB and I use it to edit large drone photos and movies as well as family movies. Final Cut Pro finally flies! The soft raid software that comes with this drive is excellent and gives me the full 2800 MB/s it promises. So much faster than my iMac memory/SSD and my external SSD cards. I highly recommend this drive for fast processing of very large files like photographs and movies. They recommend you keep backups and I do.
Fast and Easy
Item came packaged better than any drive I have ever received. It is built well and easy to set up. From there, performance is as expected, fast and reliable.
